Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially handed over 60 Jimny SUVs to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). This marks the first-ever induction of the Jimny into the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The handover ceremony took place at the ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi, attended by senior officials from both organizations.

Deployment in high-altitude regions

The Jimny SUVs will be deployed in the challenging terrains of Leh-Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. These regions are known for their extreme weather conditions, with temperatures dropping to as low as -45 degrees Celsius in winter. The rugged landscapes and snow-covered mountains require sturdy and reliable vehicles for border patrol and troop transportation.

Support for border patrol

The Jimny is well-suited for such demanding conditions due to its proven off-road capabilities. ITBP personnel will use the Jimny for patrolling, border guarding, and the movement of officers and troops. The vehicle’s lightweight yet sturdy build, four-wheel-drive system, and high ground clearance make it an ideal choice for these operations.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny off-road capabilities

The Jimny is equipped with a 1.5-litre K15B four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 103 hp of power and 134.2 Nm of torque. It features ALLGRIP PRO 4WD technology and a low-range transfer gear (4L mode) as standard. The manual variant offers a fuel efficiency of 16.94 kmpl, while the automatic variant provides a mileage of 16.39 kmpl. The ladder frame chassis offer better durability in extreme driving conditions.

The Jimny’s robust design and off-road capabilities make it a reliable companion for ITBP personnel, ensuring efficient mobility and operational readiness.
