Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Maruti Suzuki revealed the prices for the Jimny on June 7. The prices start from a price tag of INR 12.74 lakh, and go up to INR 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec automatic variant. At launch, the  Jimny already had an order backlog of around 30,000 units. Now the deliveries have started in full swing. In fact,  Maruti mentioned that the demand for the much-awaited off-roader is now picking up the pace. As a result of this, the current waiting period for the SUV stretches up to 8 months.

Jimny Is Perfect As A 2nd Car

As per Maruti, the Jimny is clocking an average of 92 bookings a day before the prices were announced. Since the launch, the SUV has been garnering around 151 bookings daily. This pretty much suggests that the customers agreed to the pricing of the SUV.

Maruti Suzuki even claims that at a starting price of INR 12.74 lakh, the Jimny has more value than the Mahindra Thar 4X4. As it starts at INR 13.87 lakh. The Jimny comes with 4WD as standard on all the variants and comes with five doors. This contrasts with three doors on the Thar at the moment. Additionally, the Jimny also benefits from six airbags as standard, while all variants of the Thar get two airbags only.

Maruti Suzuki further mentioned how at INR 14.89 lakh, the Jimny petrol automatic 4WD is cheaper by around INR 1.3 lakh than the Thar LX 4WD automatic. This retails at INR 16.10 lakh. Maruti further mentioned that the Jimny is primarily seen as a second or a third vehicle by most buyers. And thus many are not buying the SUV as their primary vehicle.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny Waiting Period Is At 8 months

All thanks to a strong order book even before the price announcement, the Jimny currently commands a waiting period of around 30-35 weeks. This is for most locations. Dealers also mentioned that the major chunk of bookings is for the entry-level Alpha variant. This is a preferred choice for customers who wish to customise their SUV according to their taste. The automatic-gearbox-equipped units of the Jimny are also selling in good numbers.
