Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gets new 1.5L diesel engine, 24.20 kmpl mileage

One by one, Maruti Suzuki is updating their diesel car portfolio. The brand is replacing the Fiat-sourced 1.3L diesel engine with their new in-house developed 1.5L 4-cylinder, DDiS 225 oil burner motor. Now, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gets the 1.5L diesel engine, replacing all previous variants with the 1.3L engine.

The New Ertiga which was launched last year has made a strong case for itself. The Ertiga was already one of the best-selling MPVs in India, and with the new generation model which added ample of extra space in the cabin, it continues to be a mass market favourite.

The new 1.5L DDiS 225 diesel engine which is a 4-cylinder, turbocharged motor comes pared to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine produces 93.87 HP of max power @ 4000 RPM with 225 Nm of peak torque @ 1500 – 2500 RPM and the brand claims a mileage of 24.20 kmpl. The smaller 1.3L diesel engine delivered 25.47 kmpl of mileage. This engine is currently BSIV compliant, but can be tweaked to meet the BSVI emission norms in the near future.

The new 1.5L diesel engine also comes with a dual mass flywheel to reduce engine fluctuations, pendulum type engine mounting for better NVH.

Between November – April, Maruti Suzuki has sold more than 40,000 units of the new Ertiga in India. This is a growth of over 150% compared to the same period with the older model. The new generation Ertiga was launched in November 2018, and it seems to be a success.
