Maruti Suzuki could launch 7-seater XL6 dubbed as XL7

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Maruti Suzuki is planning to update the premium three-row MPV, XL6, in the Indian market. The brand plans to launch the facelift of the MPV with mild revisions to the fascia and equipment updates on the inside. But a media report also suggests that Maruti Suzuki will be introducing a new version of the XL6 with three-rows and 7-seats.

Maruti Suzuki XL7?

The XL6 moniker corresponds to the 6-seats on the MPV, and therefore we speculate that the brand will also introduce a name. Maruti Suzuki could name the new premium 7-seater XL7. Maruti Suzuki already retails the Ertiga, which comes with 7-seats and slots below the XL6. But the Ertiga does not get premium exterior and interior features compared to the XL6. The XL7, however, is likely to come with a bench seat in the middle row. The Maruti Suzuki XL6 comes with captain seats in the middle row. Moreover, the new MPV will also carry over the design highlights and the equipment list from the XL6.

Premium 7-seater

This will give buyers a new 7-seat option in a premium avatar, bridging the gap between the Ertiga and the XL6. Where will Maruti Suzuki position the XL7 is still a question? We speculate that the XL6 will remain the flagship MPV in the India portfolio. And the XL7 is likely to slot between the Ertiga and the XL6.

Ertiga Update

The brand will also update the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in FY 2021-22. The second-generation model was introduced back in 2018. After almost three years of service, this might be the time for a new upgrade. The Ertiga facelift is likely to come with minor styling upgrades on the front fascia and minor improvements to the cabin. The brand will continue to retail the MPV with the same BS6 compliant K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine. The engine makes 104.6 PS power and 138 Nm of torque. The same engine also powers the current Maruti Suzuki XL6. But the Ertiga is also available with a factory-fitted S-CNG fuel option.
