Maruti Suzuki Celerio, WagonR & Ignis recalled over brake issue

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Maruti Suzuki has announced a recall for a few units of the Celerio, WagonR and Ignis. 9,925 units have been affected and the cars were manufactured between 3 August – 1 September 2022.

Maruti is suspecting a defect in the rear brake assembly pin. In some cases it is possible that the pin may break and cause a weird noise. Due to this, there could be a long term impact on the braking performance of the vehicle.

Maruti will contact the owners of the said vehicles and call them in for an inspection. If their cars are affected, the company will replace the affected cost free of cost.

Customers can also visit the carmaker’s website to check if their car is affected. Users can enter the 17-digit VIN number and get more information.

The Ignis is powered by a BS6 emission compliant 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine that produces 82.9 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox with an option of an ‘Auto Gear Shift’ (AGS) automated manual  transmission (AMT).

The Celerio is powered by a 1.0-litre K10C petrol engine that is rated at 65.7 HP and 89 Nm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AGS gearbox as well.

The WagonR gets two engine options – the 1.0-litre unit as well as the 1.2-litre unit. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AGS.

The WagonR is one of the top selling cars in India with 20,078 units dispatched in September 2022. Ignis sells around 5-6,000 units per month while the Celerio is around the 6,000-unit mark. Celerio is a new launch, while the WagonR facelift was launched earlier this year.

Maruti has been pretty proactive in announcement of recalls. This is not the first time that the carmaker has announced a recall and acted swiftly on the same.
