Mahindra’s new Off-Road Vehicle – ROXOR, but not for India

Written by Parichay Malvankar

For the North American market, Mahindra has just revealed a new off-road vehicle. And this is called the Roxor. Although a new name, and the brand claims that it is a new product, we know what it looks like – the Thar. The Roxor is being pitched as a tough, no-nonsense off-road vehicle.

Building over the 70-year history of Mahindra, the Roxor does look like an old-scool, rugged, purpose-driven vehicle. Side x Side category has seen plastic-bodied & belt-driven vehicles before, but the Roxor offers a simple steel body over a boxed steel frame architecture for better durability. The Roxor comes powered by a 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The M2DICR engine produces 62 HP of power @ 3200 RPM and 144 LB FT of torque @ 1400-2200 RPM.

Of course, the Roxor comes with 4wd.

Mahindra claims that the Roxor was conceived, designed & engineered at their Metro Detroit facility in North America. But we know what it looks like.

Also, the Roxor is not a street-legal vehicle. It has a limited max speed of just 45 mph.

You can see from the pictures, that unlike the Thar, the Roxor gets the same metal body but without the wheel arches, metal bumpers, roll cage but no front windscreen, LED bar mount on the roll cage, 2-seater layout, alloy wheels, off-road tyres, canvas roof.
