The Mahindra Thar is offered with 3 engine options – a – 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.2-liter diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre diesel is good for 117 BHP and 300 Nm of peak torque. This engine is offered in a rear wheel drive configuration with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.2-litre diesel produces 130 BHP and 320 Nm of max torque. Mahindra pairs a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with this motor. Further, 4×4 is standard with the 2.2 diesel. Finally, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol is good for 150 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. This is offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic in 4×4 avatar while the 4×2 comes with a 6-speed automatic box only.
Meanwhile the Maruti Suzuki Jimny comes with a single 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This is good for 103 BHP and 134.2 Nm. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Suzuki’s allGrip four wheel drive tech is standard.
