Planning to get a Mahindra SUV anytime soon? This news article will definitely interest you. As per the latest reports, Mahindra has announced that it is ramping up production capacity for its popular SUVs. As part of this, the carmaker is targeting to produce around 6 lakh units per annum in the next 12-15 months. This is to reduce the massive waiting periods for its SUVs, which includes the likes of the Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio-N.

Mahindra’s Manufacturing Capacity Rise

Thus, as a part of this expansion, Mahindra’s monthly production capacity is set to increase. The figure will go up from 29,000 units in Q4 FY2022 to 49,000 units by Q4 of FY2024, as confirmed by the company recently. Mahindra also announced an investment of INR 7,900 crore over a period of three years.

With the growing demand for Mahindra’s range of SUVs, Mahindra took this decision. Furthermore, there are new launches planned for the coming days as well. Of all, the five-door Thar and the XUV400 EV are the most talked about. Mahindra mentioned that this incremental capacity would help reduce waiting periods for new launches. Moreover, it will also enable them to meet any uptick in exports, as well as mop up additional demand for its bread-and-butter utility vehicle range.

Waiting Period Expected To Come Down

As part of this expansion, Thar’s production will increase from 4,000 units a month to 6,000 units a month. Meanwhile, for the XUV300, the figure will rise from 5,000 units a month to 9,500 units. The newly launched Scorpio-N will see an increase in production from 10,000 units a month from the current 6,000.

The much-in-demand XUV700 SUV, too, will see its production rise from the current 6,000 units to 10,000 units a month. As for the EV portfolio, Mahindra has plans to create a manufacturing capacity of 15,000 to 17,000 units a month. This will account for 20-30 per cent of the company’s total line-up. Mahindra confirmed that they would introduce the XUV400 EV SUV early next year.
