Mahindra Thar RWD 4×2 specs, variants & features revealed

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Mahindra has unveiled the details of the Thar RWD variants. The brand has uploaded the updated brochure of the SUV on its website. The new Thar 4×2 will arrive on January 9. With the updated brochure we get to know a host of details related to the powertrain, colour options and equipment on offer.

Mahindra Thar RWD: What Do We Know So Far?

From the exterior outlook, the 2WD version of the Thar remains cosmetically similar to the 4WD version. But, it misses out on the 4×4 badge on the rear fender, which is understandable. Mahindra has also introduced two new colour shades for the Thar. This is the Blazing Bronze, which is also available on the XUV300 TurboSport. Then the second colour option is Everest White. With these new colour additions, the total exterior paint options are now six. The 4×2 version of the Thar will only have the hard-top option.

Inside the RWD version, we see a cubby hole instead of the 4×4 selector lever in the centre console. But, the SUV now gets an auto-start-stop function, accessible via the control panel near the driver’s right knee.

Mahindra Thar RWD: Mechanicals

Thar RWD also gets a new powertrain which is a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, lifted from the XUV300. The power figure reads as 118.5 HP and 300 Nm of torque. The equipped gearbox is a six-speed manual gearbox. Alongside, the 2WD version will also come with the 2.0-litre petrol engine making 152 HP and 300 Nm and 320 Nm with an automatic gearbox.

Mahindra Thar AX (Optional) Key Highlights

Along with the rear-wheel drive system, the Thar will now also get a lower-spec AX Optional trim for both 1.5 diesel and 2.0 petrol powertrains. EW understands that this trim was not available with the Thar earlier, but has now been silently added.

The AX (O) uses 16-inch steel wheels instead of 17-inch alloy wheels. Other key highlights of this SUV include a tubular steel side step, vinyl upholstery, manual mirror adjustment and a monochrome MID display. The AX (O) misses out on some important features. These are the 7-inch touchscreen system, in-built speakers, TPMS, cruise control and steering-mounted controls. Noteworthy to mention, ESP with roll-over mitigation along with Hill hold and hill descent control is only available with the 1.5 diesel AX optional variant.
