Mahindra has silently updated the color palette for its popular off-roader, the Thar. The Thar is now available in a new military green shade, aptly named as ‘Deep Forest’.
New Addition to the Palette
The new color option expands the Thar’s palette to six different shades. The existing colors include Red Rage, Deep Grey, Stealth Black, Everest White, and Desert Fury. The latter is exclusively available with the special Earth Edition. Like all the other colours, the Deep Forest also gets a black hard top.
The ‘Deep Forest’ shade is not entirely new to the Mahindra family. It has already been featured on other Mahindra SUVs such as the Scorpio N and the recently launched XUV 3XO.
No Other Changes
Despite the addition of the new color, no mechanical changes have been made to the Thar. It continues to be available with two engine options: a 2.2-litre diesel producing 130 BHP and 300 Nm, and a 2.0-litre petrol that puts out 150 BHP and 300-320 Nm. Both engines come with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Thar’s price range remains unchanged, with prices ranging from INR 11.35 lakh to INR 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). The Thar continues to face competition from the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny, as well as similarly priced monocoque compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
This update comes amidst a price hike for the Thar 3-Door variant starting May 2024, targeting entry-level models as Mahindra prepares for the Thar Armada launch in August. We are also expecting the three-door Thar to get a facelift later this year. The new Thar might be equipped with ADAS features as well. We can also expect this new shade to be available to the Thar Armada.
