Mahindra is planning to launch the 5-door Thar in the Indian market soon. Now a media report reveals that the upcoming 5-door Thar which could be christened Thar Armada is likely to come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. In addition to this, the Thar Armada could also come with the option of a 2.2-litre diesel engine as well as a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Mahindra Thar Armada – Engine Line-Up
Reports reveal that the SUV brand is likely to offer a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine on the Thar Armada. The engine is already on sale powering the Mahindra Thar (3-door). The powertrain produces 117 Hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. However, will Mahindra use the engine in the same state of tune is yet to be seen. But, the entry-level trim which is likely to be a 2WD model could get this 1.5-litre engine from the current Thar, benefitting from the economies of scale.
As for the higher variants of the Mahindra Thar Armada, the brand could use 2.2-litre diesel engine from the Scorpio N. The engine produces 175 Hp of power on the Scorpio N and is also likely to be in a similar state of tune. In addition to this, petrol enthusiasts of the SUV are likely to be offered the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 203 Hp of power. Both these engine options are also likely to come with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain with also the option of a two-wheel-drive (2WD). Also, the brand is likely to offer both manual and automatic transmission options.
Mahindra Thar Armada – Price and Competition
The Mahindra Thar Armada is likely to come with a starting price of INR 15 Lakh ex-showroom. The Thar Armada is likely to compete directly with the Force Gurkha 5-Door, Maruti Suzuki Jimny and also other SUVs in the price range such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Expect the launch of the Thar Armada Independence Day this year.
