Written by Kanad Kalasur

Mahindra has increased the prices of the Thar 4X2 Diesel by INR 50,000. This is the first price hike of this new variant which was introduced just recently. While official announcement is expected in a while, multiple dealerships have confined this news.

Thar has been a runaway successful model for Mahindra. Along with the XUV700 and the new Scorpio N, the Indian car maker has its order books full. To ensure wider acceptability of the Thar as well as a lower price range, Mahindra introduced the 4×2 versions.

Price hike of the Mahindra Thar

As of now, the Indian carmaker has increased prices of only the 4×2 LX diesel variant. The entry level AX(O) prices have not changed. Similarly the 4×2 petrol automatic has been spared the price hike.

Other variants of the Thar like the 4×4 continue to sell at their existing prices. There has been no price hike in these versions.

One of the reasons cited by the dealers is the fact that the 1.5 diesel motor has been updated for the upcoming Real Driving emission norms.

Price difference between 4×2 and 4×4 Thar variants

Despite the price hike, the 4×2 and 4×4 diesel have a gap of INR 3.38 lakh. This is still a significance amount and many owners who don’t plan off-road will opt for the 4×2 diesel. Sales of the 4×2 are showing strong demand with long wait time. Meanwhile the 4x4s continue to have ready availability across the variants and colour options.
