Mahindra Thar 3-Door new update details
While Mahindra has already begun testing the upcoming Thar facelift model, the company has silently updated the current model with new cost-cutting features. The aim is to keep the growing input costs and profit ratio as per the plan.
The first update is the removal of the alloy wheel as a spare tyre. Ever since Thar was launched, it came fitted with five alloy wheels, out of which one was the full-size spare tyre. However, it has now been replaced by a full-size steel rim.
Moreover, to cover the steel rim, Mahindra has added a new stepney cover, which is made out of plastic and looks rugged. Another change is the removal of the good MRF Wanderer A/T tyres, which were fitted as OEM. Now, the company has opted for the JK Ranger A/T tyres, which are believed to be more cost-efficient than the MRF ones.
Apart from these updates, the rest of the SUV remains unchanged. It continues to be offered with a 2.2L diesel and a 2.0L petrol engine option. For budget-oriented buyers, there is an RWD 1.5L diesel engine option available.
Our verdict
Mahindra launched the current-gen Thar in 2020, and it has been due for a thorough update. The company is already working on a new facelift model, which is likely to offer a new design and cabin. The updated model is likely to be launched next year with an increased price tag.
