In the international markets, Mahindra has been selling the older Scorpio’s pickup version as the Pik Up. Now, the Indian carmaker has revealed a new generation pickup based on the Scorpio N.

The production version of this is codenamed Z121. It will be based on a next-gen ladder-frame chassis which is expected to perform well in not just the Global NCAP but also the Euro NCAP tests.

In terms of design, the Pik Up has been designed at Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS). As this is still a concept, we can see many features that may not make it to the production version. However, we can see the strong resemblance with the front of the Scorpio N. The bumper houses an aggressive skid plate while the grille also stands out. There is snorkel and a roof bar mounted light bar as well.

The rear gets a double-cab design with a separate load bay. The exact specifications are not yet known, but the bed appears to be spacious as evident from the large spare tyres.

Features of the Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept

In terms of tech, there is expected to be Level 2 ADAS features. The car will also get semi-automatic parking and connectivity features based on 5G. A sunroof is also likely to make its way to the production version.

Mahindra is also offering Trailer Sway Mitigation. This is targeted as folks who tow with their cars. In this, the ESP detects when a trailer starts swaying and takes the necessary corrective action using the brakes and the throttle.

Powertrain Details of the Mahindra Global Pik Up

The pickup could share engines from the Scorpio N. The diesel unit could be the Gen II version of the popular 2.2 mHawk while in markets with demand for the petrol, the company could offer the 2.0L petrol engine. Four-wheel-drive will be on offer and transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Mahindra is also offering Drive modes on the car – Normal, Grass Gravel Snow, Mud and Sand.
