Mahindra recalls XUV300 diesel variants

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Mahindra could be silently recalling the XUV300 for an engine problem. According to reports, the brand is recalling the diesel variants of the XUV300 for a defective intercooler hose. The intercooler hose on both the automatic and manual diesel powertrains are being replaced. Reports suggest that the hose are developing cracks over a period of time. However, the exact number of vehicles with this problem is not known. But sources report that Mahindra has requested its customers to bring their diesel XUV300 to the nearest Mahindra dealership and get the part checked.

The Fault

As the turbocharger sucks and compresses air, the air temperature rises. This leads to a decrease in the density of air. The intercooler, as the name suggests, cools down the compressed air from the turbocharger. By cooling the air back the density improves thus having more oxygen molecules for combustion in a tight space. One of the hoses, that does the duty of carrying the hot air from the turbocharger and back to the induction system may have the fault.

Mahindra XUV300 – Engine Specifications

Powering the Mahindra XUV300 are two engines – turbo-petrol and turbo-diesel engine. The engine in question is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The petrol model comes with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 109 Bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque.  However, there are no reports of any recall over the turbo-petrol engine.

The Solution
