Mahindra Logistics fleet crosses 1,250 EV milestone

One of India’s largest Third-Party Logistics (3PL), Mahindra Logistics Ltd. (MLL), has achieved an important milestone. On account of World EV Day, MLL revealed that ‘EDeL’, its Electric Vehicle (EV) based last-mile delivery service, has now crossed, deploying a fleet of 1,000 electric vehicles. Cumulatively these electric vehicles have covered over 13 million green kilometres. These last-mile EVs are currently operational across 16 major cities in India. This includes Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Lucknow, and Indore. Furthermore, the company also has 250 Electric Vehicles in its Mobility business across India. They have contributed to an additional 14 million green kilometres.

EDeL Leads Mahindra Logistics Ltd. EV Conquest

EDeL plays an important part in MLL’s goal to achieve the target of carbon neutral by 2040. The aim is to electrify 100 per cent of its last-mile fleet by 2026. In order to monitor and optimally utilize its fleet, MLL has also developed and deployed an IT-enabled control tower for EDeL. This control tower gives visibility into the location of the vehicles. Moreover, it can also indicate the battery’s health at all times and can guide the drivers to the nearest charging station.

EVs Are The Future Of Logistics And Mobility

With customers increasingly demanding dependable and sustainable modes of logistics and mobility, Mahindra’s Edel is a perfect choice. Now with massive support coming in from both the Central and State governments are enabling multiple policies to drive EV adoption. All this will help India achieve the goal of reaching the EV penetration targets for different vehicle classes by 2030.

Currently, a host of new EV companies are working with great dedication to enabling the entire EV ecosystem. This includes setting up well-connected public charging infrastructure to accelerate EV adoption. Mahindra has hinted that they are actively exploring both SCV and LCV options with a few partners. In fact, electric bikes are also a part of Mahindra’s Logistics Ltd’s plan, and trials are underway for certain use cases.
