Leading automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra has joined hands with REE Automotive, leaders in e-mobility platforms, to explore development and manufacturing of electric commercial vehicles for global markets. With the strategic collaboration, Mahindra will leverage REE Automotive’s revolutionary electric vehicle corner module and platform technology.
REE Automotive has developed a completely flat, scalable and modular platform that will provide Mahindra with an advanced platform that will come with full design freedom to create electric commercial vehicles for global markets. Under the collaboration, Mahindra will also use REE’s revolutionary electric vehicle corner module.
Dubbed the ‘REEcorner’ the electric vehicle corner module integrates all traditional vehicle components into the arch of the wheel allowing the REEboard platform to be completely flat and modular. The platform boasts to be cost-efficient and offers multiple customer benefits such as package optimization, increased energy efficiency, faster development time, ADAS compatibility, reduced maintenance costs and compliance with the global safety standards.
The Mahindra-REE partnership will support REE’s global customer need for 200,000-250,000 electric commercial vehicle units over a few years, including potential Mahindra’s domestic and international volumes. The brand has also announced that the electric vehicle production would be sized-up to support added volumes in the global as well as the Indian market.
REE’s innovative technology and Mahindra’s global presence and its unique volume flexibility capability, as well as it’s engineering and product development expertise, will help both the brand’s reach new capabilities in the electric vehicle sector.
In other news, Mahindra has launched the BS6 emissions-compliant Mahindra Marazzo in the BS6 avatar at the starting price of INR 11.25 lakh ex-showroom. The BS6 Mahindra Marazzo is offered in three variant trims – the base ‘M2’, the mid-spec ‘M4+’ and the top-end ‘M6+’. The Mahindra Marazzo is available in five exterior paint options – Iceberg White, Oceanic Black, Aqua Marine, Shimmering Silver and Mariner Maroon.
