It seems like Mahindra is about to change the electric car segment in India rigorously. On the first day of the commencement for bookings of the XEV 9e and BE 6 EVs, Mahindra collectively got 30,179 bookings. Read below the complete details.

Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9 e – booking details

The commencement of bookings for Mahindra’s new EVs has created a stir in the Indian car market. On the first day of the booking commencement, the company received over 30,000 bookings for both models. As per the official data, 56 percent of bookings are for the XEV 9e, while 44 percent of bookings are for the BE 6.

Interestingly, the majority of the bookings received are for the Pack Three version of both models. This version uses the bigger 79 kWh battery pack. Both cars are available with two battery pack options – a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh.

The total electric vehicle sales for the year 2024 in India was 1 lakh cars. Considering this number, Mahindra has gathered more than 30 percent of the total EV sales in India in a single day. It is a huge feat for any Indian car manufacturer ever, especially considering that both models are positioned in the premium category.

Mind you, the prices for BE 6 start from Rs 18.90 lakh and go up to Rs 26.90 lakh (ex-showroom), without including the cost of the charger. Meanwhile, the XEV 9e price range starts from Rs 21.90 lakh and goes up to Rs 30.50 lakh (ex-showroom), without the cost of the charger.

The 59 kWh battery pack develops 231 bhp and 380 Nm of power and torque. The MIDC-claimed range for it is 542 km on a single charge. Meanwhile, the most popular 79 kWh battery option develops 286 bhp and 380 Nm of power and torque, offering a total range of 656 km on a single charge.

Mahindra claims that the deliveries for the 59 kWh battery pack variants will start in March, while the 79 kWh battery pack variants of both models are expected to be delivered by July.

Our verdict

Mahindra’s new electric car range has definitely created a strong ripple among the pool of other EV brands like Tata Motors, Hyundai, and even BYD. The unique design of the BE 6 and the long-range of the 79 kWh battery pack are exceptionally good for the price.
