Lohia Machines Limited (LML) is set to make a comeback with its Star electric scooter. This iconic brand, which once dominated the Indian two-wheeler market, is now poised to return through the electric scooter segment with a design that promises to be both innovative and nostalgic.
A Legacy Reimagined
LML, a name synonymous with reliable and stylish scooters in the 1990s and early 2000s, has partnered with Saera Electric Auto Private Limited (SEAPL) to bring the Star back to life. The collaboration with experienced Italian designers, who have previously worked with giants like Ducati and Yamaha, ensures that the Star is not just a scooter but a statement of style and technology.
Design and Features
The LML Star sports a modern, dual-tone design with a sleek black and white body. Red accents under the seat and on the pillion grab handle add a touch of flair, while the flat floorboard enhances comfort and practicality. The front apron features a dual-tone design with Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and a photosensitive headlamp, giving it a futuristic look.
Inside, the Star is packed with features that set it apart from its competitors. It boasts an automatic headlight with guide-me-home lamps, a customizable screen behind the front apron, a wireless charger, ambient lighting, and a digital display. Safety is also a priority, with features like a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, reverse mode, and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) included.
Performance and Specifications
While detailed performance specs are still under wraps, the Star is expected to house two removable battery packs with a combined capacity of 4 kWh. This setup is anticipated to offer a range of approximately 150 km on a single charge, making it a practical choice for daily commutes. The scooter is projected to reach a top speed of around 90 km/h, powered by a mid-mounted motor that drives the rear wheel via a belt drive system.
The suspension setup includes a telescopic fork at the front and a side-mounted monoshock at the rear, ensuring a smooth ride even on rough roads. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, providing reliable stopping power.
Market Position and Expectations
The LML Star is set to compete with established players like the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, and Vida V1.
