Written by Rohit Tonapi

BMW has unveiled new 50 Jahre M editions for the M3 and M4 to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. 2022 marks the start of its sixth decade in existence for BMW M. The company will offer M enthusiasts all over the world an exclusive collection of high-performance sports cars in the premium mid-range segment.

As a part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations, BMW will launch multiple products across the range throughout the year. In addition to this, BMW India will also launch ten special editions. These will span across the locally produced as well as CBU models. The special editions will focus on the M Sport variants and the M models.

BMW M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M

The BMW M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M will be limited to just 500 units. Furthermore, the limited-edition M3 will be available exclusively for the North American market.

Exterior Highlights

The 2023 BMW M3 Competition xDrive-based limited edition will celebrate the brand’s history with colours from the previous generations of the M3. There will be five iconic colour options, one from each of the five generations of the M3. These include the Cinnabar Red from the E30 M3 and Techno Violet from the E36 M3. The Deep Interlagos Blue is taken from the E46 M3. There is the Fire Orange III from the limited Lime Rock Park Edition of the E92 M3. And lastly, the Limerock Grey from the F80 M3 CS. Also, BMW revived two of these colours, the Techno Violet and Interlagos Blue, just for this edition.

Apart from the exclusive colour options, the limited-edition M3 also comes with Style 826M forged wheels. These wheels come with an Orbit Grey Matt finish, which is not available on the standard M3. Behind the wheels, customers can opt for red, blue or black-coloured calipers. Additionally, customers can also go with the M Carbon Ceramic Brakes, which come with gold calipers.

Other exterior highlights also include a carbon fibre splitter at the front. At the rear, the signature quad tailpipes now feature carbon fibre and titanium trim. A carbon fibre trunk-lid spoiler also matches the standard carbon fibre roof. The limited-edition car will also get classic BMW M Motorsport logos throughout the exterior. These include logos on the hood, wheel centre caps and the trunk. The model will be available in just one configuration.

Interior Highlights

On the inside, the car gets a special ‘Edition 50 Jahre BMW M’ lettering on the door sills. A similar aluminium plaque can also be found on the cupholder cover. Additionally, the plaque also shows the car’s production number out of 500. The seats are M Carbon bucket seats finished in Black Merino leather. It also features unique stitching in M colours for all the seats.

BMW M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M

The limited edition of the M4, the BMW M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M, will be available for European as well as other select markets. However, BMW did not confirm all of the markets it will be available in. BMW also did not reveal the production cap for this limited-edition model.

Exterior Highlights

The limited-edition BMW M4 will be available in five colour options – Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey, Carbon Black and San Marino Blue. Additionally, BMW will offer Fire Orange and Stratus Grey colour options in China to celebrate the Year of the Tiger.

Similar to the M3, the M4 will get Style 826M forged wheels in an Orbit Grey Matt or Gold Bronze Matt finish. The Fire Orange colour option in China will get the Orbit Grey Matt wheels. At the same time, the Stratus Grey colour option will get the Gold Bronze Matt wheels.

Like the M3, this M4 also gets the classic BMW M Motorsport logos. These logos feature staggered semicircles in blue, navy and red. The anniversary logo is reminiscent of the original BMW M trademark first seen on the racing cars in 1973.

Interior Highlights

The interiors of the car also feature ‘Edition 50 Jahre BMW M’ logos on the door sills. Furthermore, the cupholder cover features a metal plaque with the same lettering. There is also a special imprint on the seat’s headrests. This imprinting is available in the M Sport seats as well as the optional M Carbon Bucket seats.
