Liberty Media Corporation is the new owner of MotoGP
After revolutionizing the commercial success of the Formula One Championship since the 2017 acquisition, Liberty Media is now set to change the MotoGP forever.
The company has received an unconditional approval from the European Commission to acquire 84% rights from Dorna Sports, which is the current owner of MotoGP worldwide.
As far as Dorna Sports is concerned, after the takeover, it will be left with 16% stakes. Moreover, the top management is likely to retain, which includes the CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta and his team.
The expected date of the takeover is July 3, 2025, after which a new era in the MotoGP is likely to begin. The company will use its expertise and learnings from Formula One and use them to grow MotoGP commercially worldwide.
With that said, executives from Liberty Media and Dorna Sports are likely to sit together and form a joint team to chalk out the future map for the MotoGP commercialization.
The company has extensively modernized the digital marketing for Formula One, which has resulted in new revenue streams as well as generating interest in niche regions like the US.
