Lexus new sports car to feature Toyota Supra’s platform
As reported recently by a Japanese media publication, Toyota’s luxury wing Lexus is said to be developing a new sports car based on the upcoming generation of the iconic Supra.
The current generation Toyota Supra is nearing the end of its production cycle after a glorious seven-year stint. As Toyota has parted ways with BMW and is developing its new-gen Supra, Lexus has also joined the queue.
While the new-gen Supra will be strictly a two-seater model, the Lexus iteration is reported to get a 2+2 configuration. Additionally, the reporting source claims that the company will also introduce a convertible version of the same.
However, unlike Supra, it will focus more on luxurious interiors and more advanced features, thus offering a premium experience to customers. Moreover, it will replace the current-gen LC model.
Apart from the design, cabin, and features, the rest of the model is likely to be similar to the Supra. It will feature the new-gen 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, which will be mated to a self-charging hybrid system. This motor will send the power to the rear wheels via an 8- or 10-speed gearbox.
