Lexus has stopped accepting bookings for its LX 500d luxury SUV in India, according to dealer sources. Launched in 2022 at INR 2.82 crore, the LX 500d was Lexus’ only diesel SUV in the country. The SUV is the sister model to the Toyota Land Cruiser (LC300) and is known for its luxurious features and powerful performance.

Lexus LX 500d engine and features

The SUV comes with a 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 308 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. It features a 10-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds. The SUV also boasts a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, a 25-speaker audio system, front and rear seat ventilation, and up to four interior color options.

Will the Lexus LX 500d be back on sale?

Despite its impressive specifications, Lexus has paused bookings for the SUV, leading to speculation about its discontinuation. A recent Instagram post from Lexus India stated that the SUV will be “arriving soon,” indicating that bookings may resume shortly. However, it remains unclear whether the upcoming model will feature new updates or continue with the same specifications.

The premium SUV competes with luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, BMW XM, and Range Rover. Prices for these rivals range from INR 2.4 crore to INR 3.39 crore, excluding options. A slight price increase for the LX 500d is also anticipated.

Our Thoughts

The pause in bookings for the Lexus LX 500d has certainly raised eyebrows among luxury SUV enthusiasts. While the reasons behind this move remain unclear, the possibility of new updates or a hybrid engine could be exciting. However, potential buyers will need to wait for official confirmation from Lexus India to understand the future of this luxury off-roader.
