Lexus LM – New luxury MPV

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Lexus has showcased for the very first time a luxury MPV at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. Lexus has been making luxury cars and SUVs but this time they have done something like never before. The ‘LM’ comes with an extremely large grille, typical of Lexus, on the front and it is hypnotic in nature. If you look past the grille you will notice that there is also a whole MPV behind it.

On the exterior the extremely large spindle grille has a lot of chrome and brushed aluminium finishers to it. The headlamps are sleek in design with three pot LED projectors and the signature ‘L’ shaped LED daytime running lights. At the bottom ends, two small fog lamps are placed with ‘L’ shaped chrome accentuated air ducts. The rear has a wrap around LED tail light which runs through the width of the car, and on the bottom of the bumper are what appears to be two reflectors which may be illuminated and are garnished with chrome accents. The tailgate has a Lexus logo in the centre and Lexus badge on the left and the model name LM 300h badging on the right. The ‘h’ in the LM 300h suggests that the vehicle has Hybrid technology. The LM has large multi-spoke chrome finished alloy wheels.

On the interior, it can be ordered in a 7-seat and a 4-seat chauffeur driven configuration. The latter has a glass partition and a large built-in 26-inch screen with Mark and Levinson sound system, two large reclining captain seats separated by an armrest and touchscreen controls in the centre, a 14-litre fridge and umbrella storage. The car also comes with double layered glass for noise reduction. The LM rides on a swing valve shock absorbers for ultimate comfort and balance.

The Lexus LM is expected to have two power trains available; a 3.5-litre engine and a 2.5-litre hybrid motor available in a front wheel and all wheel drive options.

The body of the Lexus LM is based on the Toyota Alphard and it is extremely well built. The LM will sadly be only available in China and a few other Asian markets and is targeted towards businessmen who work on the go.
