Launched! Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance now in India at INR 3.30 Crore

Mercedes-AMG has brought in the GT 63 S E Performance for the Indian market. Priced at INR 3.30 crore (ex-showroom, India), this is now the new flagship AMG model in the country. This 4-door coupe made its global debut back in September 2021. This is the first plug-in hybrid and at the same time also the most powerful production vehicle yet from Mercedes-AMG. Mercedes Benz also mentioned a peculiar feature of the GT 63 S E Performance. It is that all the customers will get their keys handed to them by seven-time Formula One champion, Lewis Hamilton. Now, how cool is that?

Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Powertrain Highlights

The AMG GT 63 S E Performance shares its platform with the standard GT 63 S 4-door coupe. Thus it benefits from a 639 HP, twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine. This unit is matched to an axle-mounted 204 HP electric motor at the rear. Thus making it put out a total output of an astounding 843 HP and 1,470Nm of torque. With these figures, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance can go from 0 to 100 kmph in a crazy 2.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is set at 316 kmph.

Mercedes-AMG has also equipped the super sedan with a 6.1kWh, 400V battery pack. This powers the motor into EV-only mode. This comes with a claimed range of 12 km and a top speed of 130 kmph. The AMG GT 63 S E Performance also comes equipped with seven drive modes and four levels of regenerative braking.

Compared to the standard car, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance benefits from subtle exterior design changes. This includes a redesigned front bumper that’s modelled after the two-door AMG GT. We also see Mercedes Benz using exhaust outlets and a new design for the 20-inch or 21-inch alloy wheels. Moreover, the sedan also gets a flap on the rear bumper. This houses the charging port.

The interiors of the AMG GT 63 S E Performance too see minor changes. The IC shows several hybrid-specific information to the driver. Important driving statistics like real-time power consumption data, an EV range indicator, and an electric motor power gauge are all available via the MBUX infotainment system. Drivers also get the option to enhance the sound experience within the cabin. They can do so by toggling between ‘balanced’ or ‘powerful’ mode, by using a designated button located in the centre console.

This super sedan will directly rival the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid that retails with a price tag of INR 2.76 crore (ex-showroom, India)
