KTM working on 250 Adventure for India

Written by Parichay Malvankar

An adventure motorcycle from KTM for the Indian market has been in the news for years now. While the brand themselves have announced that the 390 Adventure will make it to showrooms in 2019, there is no signs of it till date. Now, a new rumour suggests that KTM is also working on a cheaper 250 Adventure for the Indian market. Well, it makes sense to make the best use of a platform and the available engines to introduce two motorcycles are different price points.

Similar to the 250 Duke and 390 Duke, the 2019 KTM 250 Adventure and 390 Adventure will share most of the components, except for the engine. The bikes would look almost the same, except for the body decals and paint options. The KTM 250 Adventure however has not been officially announced, and will be a surprise package at launch. We know that the KTM 390 Adventure will have the pricing cross well over INR 3 lakh on-road, and hence, the 250 model makes more sense as it could fight out the Royal Enfield Himalayan with more kit, more capability and more features.

KTM & Bajaj will also make use of this launch event to introduce BSVI compliant engines. Currently, the 250 Duke is powered by a single-cylinder motor with liquid-cooling which produces 30 HP of power and 24 Nm of torque. This engine would surely see a change in power and torque figures after the BSVI update, and the KTM 250 Adventure will most definitely be heavier than the 250 Duke sibling.

Before making a debut in India, KTM might showcase these bikes at the EICMA show in Milan later in 2019. Adventure Touring and dual-purpose motorcycles have gained popularity in our market, and to allow as many enthusiasts to buy one, this 2 product strategy makes sense. But then, the wait continues for the KTM 390 Adventure which we have seen so many times out on test. The 790 Duke meanwhile is going to reach dealerships soon, and will be sold in limited numbers in the Indian market.
