KTM has launched the ‘1290 Super Duke RR’ a more sinister, limited edition version of the 1290 Super Duke R. The Austrian brand has lightened the super naked motorcycle by almost 9 kgs with the help of carbon fibre parts, added more track-biased electronics, an Akrapovic titanium exhaust and advanced suspension – all as standard. KTM will produce only 500 units worldwide and bookings for the motorcycle open from 8th April in Europe. The KTM 1290 Super Duke RR comes with a hefty price tag of GBP 21,499 and the motorcycle is expected to sell out like its demeanour, Fast.
Powertrain
Powering the KTM Super Duke RR is a Euro5-compliant 1,301cc 75-degree V-Twin cylinder engine with liquid cooling and electronic fuel injection technology that helps produce 180 Hp of power and 140 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed transmission. The brand has put the 1290 Super Duke RR on a strict diet and with its new weight of just 180 kgs, the Super Duke RR has a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
Weight Reduction
The 1290 Super Duke RR features carbon fibre parts in every nook and cranny of the motorcycle such as the fairings, undertray, mudguard, chain guard, brake ducts and even the locksets. But KTM did not stop there, the Super Duke RR gets a carbon fibre subframe with a redesigned single-seat, lightweight lithium-ion battery, saving 2.5 kg and a lightweight Akrapovic slip-on exhaust made from titanium that comes with a carbon fibre end cap. The super naked is also available with an Akrapovic ‘Evolution Line’ full system exhaust as an option.
Mechanical Bits
The KTM 1290 Super Duke RR features the new WP APEX PRO suspension with fully adjustable WP APEX PRO 7548 Close Cartridge forks on the front, an APEX PRO 7746 rear shock absorber custom-made to the specification for the motorcycle, an adjustable WP APEX PRO 7117 steering damper, ultra-lightweight forged wheels, saving 1.5 kg of unsprung weight and shod in ultra-sticky Michelin Power Cup2 tyres.
Electronics Package
The 1290 Super Duke RR features advanced Track and all-new Performance modes, rear-wheel slip adjustability, Launch Control, adjustable throttle control, Motor Slip Regulation and more. The brand has also employed a new quick-turn throttle twist grip with a 65-degree opening angle offering 7-degree less rotation than the standard 1290 Super Duke R increasing the throttle response and reducing the rider’s wrist angle and elbow drop at full opening. The motorcycle also comes with redesigned LED taillights incorporated into new LED turn signals and KTM’s adaptive brake light as standard.
