KTM could be planning to bring its big bike range to the Indian market. According to media reports, the brand could launch the 890 Duke, the 890 Adventure and even the 1390 Super Duke in India. Currently, the brand only caters to the mid-segment with the 390 series as its flagship in India.
In the past the brand had the 790 Duke on sale, but the motorcycle was discontinued during the BS6 transition. However, the market wasn’t quite ready for the 790 Duke as it was the brand first attempt in the portfolio in India. But, things have since changed and the superbike sales have increased.
KTM Big Capacity Bikes – Local Production or CKD?
KTM has also proved to the Indian audience, that the brand has a wide service network and is also easy on the pocket. In addition to this, KTM’s venture with Bajaj also means that it could be easy for the brand to locally produce big bikes in India. This will not only ensure a steady spare part supply but also allow the brand to keep the price in check.
However, plans to locally produce any of the large KTM models does not seem to be in pipeline, as of now. As this would require retooling the plants that currently produce motorcycles upto the 390cc capacity. But, even if KTM bring the 890, and 1390 series to India via the CKD route, the motorcycles are likely to get good traction on sales, thanks to the KTM enthusiasts in the country.
KTM Big Capacity Bikes – Launch Timeline
Reports suggest that the KTM 890 and 1390 range is likely to arrive in the Indian market as soon as FY2025. But, before that KTM is likely to updates its 390 Adventure, a popular adventure tourer in India. The upcoming motorcycle is likely to come with a new LC4c engine that made its debut on the 390 Duke. Also, KTM could be planning to introduce a new Enduro motorcycle based on the same engine and chassis.
