KTM 390 SMC R – What is different?
The 390 SMC R is essentially a Supermoto, which is likely going to be positioned between the 390 Enduro R and the 390 Adventure. Its design hints at the mix of both sibling bikes, with some unique Supermoto bits.
The test bike seen here uses the same headlight and front design as the Enduro R but with a long travel suspension, which is expected to have 230 mm of travel.
Moreover, its flat seat and upright riding posture are matched with the 17-inch tubeless spoke wheels, which are likely to provide it agility on the tarmac.
The online report also suggests that it will get a fully adjustable WP Apex suspension, similar to the international model.
As it is based on the same platform as the new 390 Enduro R and the 390 Adventure, it will be a lightweight and fun-to-ride motorcycle, as per our expectations.
Powering the SMC R is the new 399cc LC4 liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which develops 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. It will be mated to a slick 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch.
KTM will offer a 4.3-inch TFT display similar to the Enduro R, which supports Bluetooth smartphone connectivity and the basic functions.
We believe that KTM will launch it officially in the coming months with a price tag north of Rs 3 lakh.

Our verdict
The SMC R Supermoto will offer a compact, lightweight, and peppy combination of a middleweight performance bike, along with the practicality of trail riding and long-travel suspension, which will be suitable for long rides as well.
