  • The design features nostalgic styling cues like a rectangular headlamp, sleek apron, and spacious floorboard.
  • The scooter is expected to rival the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, and Ather Rizta in the family EV segment.

Kinetic is gearing up for a nostalgic-yet-modern comeback in India’s electric two-wheeler space. The company’s EV arm, Kinetic Watts & Volts, has filed a design patent for a new electric scooter that pays homage to the beloved Kinetic Honda ZX—a name that evokes fond memories for many Indian riders from the late ’80s and ’90s2.

The patent reveals a scooter that blends retro aesthetics with modern functionality, signaling Kinetic’s intent to tap into the booming family EV segment while leveraging its rich legacy.

Design: Retro charm with a modern Twist

The new e-scooter sports a sleek front apron with a rectangular headlamp mounted on the handlebar, flanked by turn indicators shaped like the Kinetic logo. A faux flyscreen above the headlamp carries the iconic KINETIC lettering, adding to the vintage appeal.

Other design highlights include:

  • Three-spoke alloy wheels
  • Chunky single-piece grab rail
  • Spacious floorboard and minimalist side panels
  • Squarish ORVMs and a slim tail section

The overall silhouette closely mirrors the original ZX, but with cleaner lines and updated proportions.

Expected features and platform

While technical specifications are yet to be revealed, the scooter is likely to feature:

  • A mid-mounted electric motor
  • Front telescopic forks and rear twin shock absorbers
  • Front disc brake (as hinted in the patent sketches)

The scooter could be built on a new platform developed at Kinetic’s Ahilya Nagar facility in Maharashtra, which was recently inaugurated to support EV production.

Market positioning and launch expectations

Kinetic is expected to position the new model as a family-friendly electric scooter, targeting rivals like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1, and Ather Rizta.

Given the brand’s legacy and the rising demand for practical, stylish EVs, this retro-modern scooter could strike the right chord with urban commuters. It may be sold under the Kinetic Green brand, which already retails models like the E-Luna and Zing.
