Kia SP2i SUV to be called Seltos, production version spotted

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Kia is soon going to reveal the SP2i SUV in production ready guise in India. This will also mark a global debut of this all-new SUV, and the first product for brand Kia here in the Indian market. The Kia SP2i SUV now has been spotted on international soil without any camouflage for the first time ever, revealing the design we can expect. The Kia SP2i will be built in India, and exported abroad. So what we see in this spyshots, is most likely the real deal for our market as well.

The Kia SP2i is likely to be named the Seltos, as seen in these spyshots. This name has made it to the news for the first time. Previously, it was rumoured that the SP2i SUV could be named the Tusker or Trailster in the Indian market. Time will tell if Kia will launch the same car by different names in global markets. When launched, the Kia SP2i will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier and the likes…

From the spyshots, one can notice that the front design of the Kia Seltos is dominated by the signature Kia Tiger nose grille. Plenty of chrome, satin silver finish and black mesh is used to give the SUV a bold appearance. One can also notice the all-LED headlamps, vertically stacked LED fog lamps, faux silver skid plates, Kia logo flush on the bonnet, bonnet bulge lines and also front parking sensors on this SUV. The side profile of the Kia Seltos reveals a dual-tone paint scheme, roof rails, dual tone alloy wheels, blacked out A, B & C pillar, bold crease lines, body cladding, contrast black painted ORVMs with LED turn indicators and a healthy ground clearance. The rear profile of the Kia Seltos reveals LED tail lamps, chrome accents, roof mounted spoiler, shark fin antenna, chrome accents on the bumper, faux rear skid plate, rear fog lamps, high mount stop lamp, and a healthy dose of black plastic cladding on the bumper.

The Kia Seltos is likely to be powered by a 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. Both these motors will be BS6 ready and Kia will most likely offer an automatic gearbox option at launch itself. Kia could also launch a more sporty turbo-petrol variant of the SP2i in India with power output upwards of 140 BHP.

In June 2019, Kia will reveal the SP2i / Seltos in India. The launch is still some time away, but Kia is surely making the right amount of noise to get the buzz going for their first ever car for the big Indian car market.
