Kia has announced that the Sonet compact SUV has crossed the 1 lakh sales milestone. The brand has achieved the feat in less than a year from its market debut in the Indian market. The Kia Sonet has also become the fourth highest-selling SUV in India. Kia introduced the Sonet compact SUV in September 2020, which emerged as a breakthrough product, contributing almost 17% to the segment. The Sonet also holds the share of 32% of overall sales in Kia India’s product portfolio.
Kia Sonet Set New Benchmark in the Segment
The exclusively Made-in-India Kia Sonet has set new benchmarks in the compact SUV segment. The compact SUV comes with many first-in-segment features and is available with several trims. The Kia Sonet is also the only compact SUV to come equipped with a 1.5 litre Diesel engine with an automatic transmission. This trim contributes to 10% of overall sales, and the Kia Sonet is available in 17 variants.
The brand also reveals that the higher-spec variants of the Sonet contribute to almost 64% of the overall sales. According to Kia, 30% of customers opt for the connected variant. Also, 26% of customer’s opted for the revolutionary clutch-pedal-less iMT technology transmission. The brand also recently launched a new refreshed version of the Sonet, with ten new enhancements, including a new KIA logo and additions to lower trim variants adding to the safety quotient.
Kia Sonet – Engine options
Powering the Kia Sonet is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The naturally-aspirated engine comes with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo-petrol motor gets a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT automatic. The brand also offers a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine which comes with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Kia Sales in August
In August 2021, Kia India Sold 16,750 vehicles which translates to year-on-year growth of 55%. The Kia Seltos registered sales of 8,619 units, while the Sonet contributed 7,752 units. The premium MPV Kia Carnival recorded sales of 379 units in August 2021.
