Kia Seltos scores 3-star safety rating at Global NCAP crash test

The Global NCAP, under its SaferCarsForIndia initiative has crash tested and evaluated the Kia Seltos SUV which scored 3-stars for safety in the adult safety score and 2-stars for safety for the child protection. Global NCAP promotes crash testing and evaluation for the emerging markets. The Kia Seltos achieved 8.03 points out of 17 points for adult safety and 15 points out of 49 point for child safety. The Kia Seltos test car was subjected to Front Offset Deformable Barrier at the speed of 64 kmph and the bodyshell was deemed unstable for futher loadings. The footwell area of the Seltos was also rated as unstable. 

The Kia Seltos SUV was equipped with three-point seatbelts, seatbelt reminder, front seatbelt pretensioners, driver and front passenger frontal airbags and ABS. The SUV tested by the NCAP was not equipped with side head airbags, side body airbags, driver’s knee airbag and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. According to the crash report, the protection to the head of the driver and passenger is adequate, the neck protection was rated good for neck protection. The passenger torso was rated good while the driver’s chest was rated adequate but the protection to the knee’s of both the driver and passenger was rated marginal due to the impact with a transfascia tube behind the dashboard. The Driver’s tibia showed weak and adequate protection while passenger’s tibias showed good and adequate protection. 

The Kia Seltos for child protection was equipped with CHICCO COSMOS child restraint system for the 3-year old test car dummy child with forward facing seats fixed with an adult seat belt and was not able to prevent excessive movement. The 18-month old test child dummy was seated in a CHICCO KEY FIT rearward facing child seat and showed good protection on the head and chest. The child restraints seats also did not show compatibility.
