Kia Seltos in India will get iMT gearbox soon

Written by Nizam Shaikh

The Kia Seltos is likely to come with a new gearbox option in the Indian market soon. Rumours are that Kia is planning to bring the iMT gearbox option on the Kia Seltos SUV. The new iMT gearbox Seltos is likely to make its debut on the 27th of April 2021. In addition to this, Kia is also likely to launch the Seltos Gravity, which was teased in the recent past. The Kia Sonet already comes with the iMT gearbox in India.

How Does the iMT gearbox work?

iMT is an acronym for intelligent Manual Transmission. The gearbox gives the driver ability to shift gears manually without having to engage and disengage the clutch lever. The vehicle with an iMT gearbox does not even have a clutch pedal. Instead, similar to an automatic the floor only has 2-pedals, Throttle & Brake. The Transmission Gear Shift (TGS) Lever which is similar to a Manual Transmission car features an Intention Sensor. This Intention Sensor sends a signal to the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) which sends another signal to a Hydraulic Actuator. The Hydraulic Actuator then hydraulic pressure and sends it to a Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) through a Clutch Tube. This automatically depresses and releases the clutch when the driver needs to stop in traffic or change gears.

Engine Specifications

The Kia Seltos in India comes with the option of a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel motor. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox, a torque converter type 6-speed automatic transmission and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The iMT gearbox is likely to come with the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine in the 6-speed form. The brand will also continue to offer the 6-speed manual transmission on the engine option. Sources also suggest that the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol model will also get a 6-speed iMT gearbox option.

It is also speculated that the Kia Seltos could get mild cosmetic updates including a new Panoramic sunroof. The brand may also employ the new Kia logo with the updated model.
