Kia India has initiated a voluntary recall for its flagship electric vehicle, the EV6, due to a potential issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). The recall affects a total of 1,138 units of the EV6, which were manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023.
What Went Wrong?
The ICCU is a critical component responsible for managing the charging process. A fault in this unit could impact the performance of the 12V supplemental battery, affecting essential functions such as lighting, the music system, and the start/stop feature.
Customer Outreach
Kia is proactively reaching out to affected customers to address the issue. Owners can also check with their nearest Kia dealership or service centers to verify if their vehicle is part of the recall.
About the Kia EV6
Based on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), EV6 was launched in June 2022 in the Indian market. Some of the key highlighting features in the EV include ultra-fast DC charging, vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, and a flat-floor interior. The EV comes with a driving range of 708 km on a single charge. Customers can have the EV6 in five colour shade options. These are namely Runway Red, Yacht Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Moonscape, and Snow White Pearl.
To support the growing number of EVs in the market, Kia India announced its charging infrastructure expansion plans. Kia targets to expand the 150 kW high-speed charger network from the existing 15 dealerships to all 60 outlets. In August 2022, Kia installed India’s first and fastest ‘240kWh’ charger. The company also has ambitious plans to expand its EV dealer footprint. Currently, it stands strong at 15 select dealerships across 12 cities at the time of launch and the aim is to reach 60 outlets across 44 cities.
Pricing
The Kia EV6 is priced at Rs 60.96 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).
