  • Concept reveal anticipated in 2026.

Kia is gearing up to introduce a new entry-level electric vehicle, the Kia EV1. This new model aims to make electric mobility more accessible to the masses. The EV1 will sit below the EV2 in Kia’s electric vehicle lineup and is expected to rival the likes of Volkswagen ID.1 and Renault Twingo.

Kia EV1 – what can we expect?

The EV1 is part of Kia’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings and cater to a broader audience. The vehicle will be a city car, focusing on urban mobility. It will likely feature a compact design, making it ideal for city driving.

The EV1 will use a version of the E-GMP platform, which is also used in the recently launched EV3. This platform supports a 400-volt electrical architecture and front-mounted e-motors.

The EV1 is likely to prioritize efficiency over range, with an estimated battery size of around 40kWh. This should provide a range of 160-180 miles, making it suitable for daily commutes and short trips.

Charging capabilities are expected to be impressive, with 100kW charging as standard and a peak of 150kW. This means the EV1 could charge from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes. Thus, making it convenient for users with busy lifestyles.

Official confirmation on the Kia EV1

Kia’s global CEO, Song Ho-Sung, confirmed that the EV1 is in the company’s plans. He emphasized the need for a lower size and lower price model to complement the EV2. The concept for the EV1 is expected to be revealed in 2026, with a full unveiling likely a year later.

Our thoughts

The Kia EV1 represents an exciting step towards making electric vehicles more accessible to a wider audience. Its focus on urban mobility and efficiency makes it a practical choice for city dwellers.

While the primary details are still under wraps, the EV1’s anticipated features and competitive pricing could make it a strong contender in the mass-market EV segment. In India, it could rival the Tata Tiago.ev and the MG Comet.
