Kia Clavis could be launched in ICE petrol & EV avatar

Written by News Team

Kia India is set to make a strong impact with its upcoming Clavis SUV. The Kia Clavis, internally known as AY, is expected to debut in India later this year. This new entrant will mark Kia’s third SUV offering following the successful Seltos and Sonet.

Why a Small SUV?

With rising household incomes, a significant portion of customers is anticipated to transition from entry-level hatchbacks to sub-compact SUVs in the future. This trend bodes well for existing sub-compact SUVs and upcoming options like the Kia Clavis. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Kia Clavis will offer both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) variants.

The ICE variants may feature the 120 PS, 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine with transmission choices including a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The Clavis EV could offer a range of around 350 to 400 km. Kia aims to target both domestic and export markets with the new SUV, with plans to achieve an annual production volume of around 1 lakh units, with ICE variants expected to account for about 80% of sales.

Design and Styling

The upcoming Kia Clavis stands out with its tall and boxy profile, sporting a rugged design characterized by tank-like sheet metal formations. Key design elements include a prominent grille, vertically positioned headlamps and DRLs, a robust clamshell bonnet, polygonal wheel arches, substantial body cladding, sporty 17-inch alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, and practical roof rails. The rear features a full-width LED light bar, mirroring the design cues seen at the front.

Kia Clavis Expected Features

The Kia Clavis will boast a comprehensive range of premium features. The dual 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and instrument display, the panoramic sunroof, the front and back ventilated seats, the 360° surround-view camera, and the twelve parking sensors are some of the standout features. The SUV will come equipped with USB charging ports, rear AC vents, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, and a foldable central armrest. Safety features will include six airbags and all-wheel disc brakes. Top-spec variants of the Kia Clavis are expected to be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Clavis is expected to make its global debut by the end of 2024 and go on sale in early 2025. The electric version will arrive six months after that.
