Kia is gearing up to introduce the Carens EV, its first mass-market electric MPV, with testing continuing ahead of its July 2025 debut. Spy shots reveal a camouflaged test mule, confirming that Kia is finalizing the model before its official launch.

Design and features

The Carens EV will retain the same design language as the recently launched Carens Clavis, with subtle EV-specific elements such as:

  • Aero-optimized alloy wheels, improving efficiency.
  • Front-mounted charging port, distinguishing it from the ICE version.
  • Full-width LED DRLs, enhancing its futuristic appeal.

Inside, the Carens EV will feature a 26.62-inch dual panoramic display, integrating the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Other expected features include:

  • Ventilated front seats and 4-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
  • 8-speaker BOSE premium audio system.
  • Wireless charging pad and ambient lighting.

Powertrain and range

The Carens EV will share its underpinnings with the Hyundai Creta Electric, meaning it will likely offer:

  • 42 kWh battery with a 135 hp motor, delivering 390 km range.
  • 51.4 kWh battery with a 171 hp motor, offering 473 km range.

Kia may tune the powertrain for smoother performance, considering the MPV’s heavier profile.

Safety and ADAS features

The Carens EV will come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
  • High beam assist and driver attention warning.
  • 360-degree camera with blind view monitor.

Additionally, the EV will support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, enhancing its practicality for long trips.

Expected pricing and market position

Kia is expected to price the Carens EV between INR 16-18 lakh, with top variants reaching INR 23-24 lakh. The model will compete with MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Hyundai Creta Electric, offering a unique 7-seater configuration.
