Kia Carens Clavis EV: What to expect?
As expected, the Carens Clavis EV is based on its ICE sibling model. It features an identical exterior design, interiors, and features to the Clavis ICE.
However, there are slight changes, which are visible in the teaser video. The front gets a closed grille and a redesigned bumper for aerodynamic support and better range. Interestingly, the alloy wheel design is inspired by the Kia EV9, as these are painted in a dual-tone shade.
On the inside, the teaser shows a 7-seat layout, which we suspect will be offered on the low-range variants. Additionally, the top-spec variants will get the 6-seater layout with captain seats.
In terms of features, it is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, beige/black cabin theme, dual connected screen display, wireless connectivity, auto AC, ambient lights, and more. Moreover, the teaser shows the V2L (vehicle-to-load) charging.
Meanwhile, the maximum claimed range shown in the teaser is 490 km. As expected, the Clavis EV will feature two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 52.1 kWh, which are likely to be carried over from the Hyundai Creta Electric.
Interestingly, the maximum range for the 52 kWh battery option is 17 km more than the Creta EV, which Kia has achieved despite the additional weight of the third-row seats.
Kia has scheduled the price announcement and media drives for the Carens Clavis EV on July 15. The expected price range for the first-ever electric Kia car is Rs 22-27 lakh.
Our verdict
The upcoming Carens Clavis EV will become the first electric MPV in the segment. It will compete with the BYD eMax 7, which is suspected to remain pricier after the price reveal of the Clavis EV. It is also the first EV to offer a third-row.
