Kia Carens Clavis Electric – What do we know so far?
The upcoming Carens Clavis EV has been spotted numerous times earlier as well. However, it has generated more interest now, especially after the launch of the ICE Clavis MPV.
Speaking of the test car seen here, the spy shots showcase that it has an identical silhouette to its ICE counterpart. However, the test car seems to have a different front fascia, which is completely covered.
As far as the online rumours suggest, the Clavis EV will get connected LED DRLs and a closed front grille for better aerodynamics, while the rest of the design is likely to remain unchanged from the ICE Clavis model.
We do not expect major changes on the inside as well. It will continue using the new 6- and 7-seater layout draped in leather upholstery, the new dashboard with a connected tri-screen setup, and other modern features as seen on the petrol and diesel Carens Clavis.
Speaking of the powertrain, the Carens Clavis EV is likely to share its platform with the Hyundai Creta Electric. If so, it will most likely offer two battery options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh.
The charging port on the test car is also on the side fender, similar to the Creta EV. Moreover, the max range of the Clavis EV can be upwards of 430 km for the long-range version.
The launch of the electric Carens Clavis can take place early next year, while the debut is rumoured to be scheduled for late 2025 itself. The pricing of the Clavis EV will easily surpass Rs 20 lakh mark.
Our verdict
Kia’s strategy for the Indian market looks aggressive for the next couple of years. The launch of Clavis MPV is certainly going to position the Korean carmaker strongly in the Rs 15-20 lakh segment. Additionally, the subsequent launch of EV models will expand the portfolio further.
