Jimny rumours continue, launch in July 2022?

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

There’s good news for all the Maruti Suzuki fans in the country. As per reports, the ever-popular Jimny could hit the Indian roads by July next year. As it stands, we might see the Indian-spec Jimny in the Auto Expo 2022. The SUV is very popular in the foreign market, but it is a 3-door type. Also, we understand that Maruti Suzuki is working on a 5-door version, especially for the Indian market. This is evident from a few spy shots that confirm the same.

Engine, Gearbox and More

As per reports, the SUV will measure 3,850 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and have a height of 1,730 mm. The wheelbase of 2,550 mm is longer than the international spec thus, we can expect the second-row of seats to have ample space. The SUV will get a 1.5-litre four-pot petrol power mill which makes 102 PS of power and 130 Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki will surely provide an automatic transmission along with a five-speed manual gearbox. The international spec SUV gets a host of safety features that could be carried over to the India-spec model. This includes a monocular camera with a laser sensor in the front. The SUV also gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, high beam assist, lane departure warning and more.

Off-Road Characteristics

The SUV will also have off-road aids like a part-time four-wheel-drive system named ‘Allgrip Pro’. This is a low ratio gearbox that helps the vehicle to tackle challenging terrain with ease. Jimny will also get a 3-link rigid axle with coil suspension at both the front and rear. A ground clearance of 210 mm along with an approach angle of 37-degree and 49-degree departure angle will make it one of the most favourable SUVs in the Indian automotive market. The SUV will be equipped with 15-inch alloys with all-terrain tyres that will enhance the off-road capabilities to a great extent. But, there are chances that Maruti Suzuki will drop some features to price it aggressively for the price-sensitive Indian market.

When launched, the SUV will directly compete with the hot-selling Mahindra Thar, which is witnessing a long waiting period.
