Electric Vehicles

Is this the Hyundai Creta Electric for the Indian market?

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Hyundai Creta is currently the most-sold SUV in the country. The nameplate has created a brand name for itself.  With sales hovering in the 10K to 15K mark per month, Creta is a dream for many customers. And with the addition of Seltos into the picture, the combined sales for the Korean twins stand at around 20K to 24K per month.

Hyundai Opting For The Top-Down Approach

Now with EVs getting increasingly popular in the market, Hyundai is making some bold moves. As per reports, Hyundai is working on an electric Creta. This will take on the MG ZS EV in 2025. Spy shots of the Hyundai Creta Electric are already out Again and it seems Hyundai is taking a top-down approach as far as its EV strategy is concerned. The approach is to start with premium EVs and then make it down to more cost-effective vehicles.

Internally called SU2i EV, Hyundai Creta Electric work is currently in progress. These latest Creta EV spy shots reveal zero-camouflaged Creta Electric on the Chennai Bangalore Expressway yesterday. With no exhaust and no radiator, it was confirmed as an EV.

Expected Design, Battery And Range

As for the overall design, the SUV carries forward the same look. But we expect the EV to get a new design when it is launched. Regarding the battery pack, Hyundai could use the one used in the Kona EV. If that is the case, Creta EV will use a 100 kW electric motor making 136 HP power and 395 Nm torque. With the equipped battery we can assume a range of over 400 km on a single charge. The electrification of Creta will lay down the foundation stone for more EVs in the future. After Creta, chances are very high that Seltos too will follow a similar path. But popularity and demand will play a major role in deciding which vehicles will get an electric treatment.
