Powering the Indian FTR 1200 S is a liquid-cooled, V-Twin, 1203cc engine producing 120 BHP of power and 112.5 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. This is a new engine for the FTR series, not shared with other Indian Motorcycles. Although the engine is based on the Indian Scout, it has 80% new parts and a higher compression ratio as well. The FTR 1200 is also significantly lighter than the heavy weight Indian cruisers.
In terms of electronic features, it gets a 6-axis IMU with stability control from Bosch, lean angle traction control and ABS along with 3 riding modes including Sport, Standard and Rain. Keeping it up to date with the times, the FTR 1200 S has a 4.3″ touchscreen colour display instrument console with bluetooth connectivity.
The Indian FTR 1200 is brought to India via the CBU route. This bike is based on an all-new platform which will also allow for an adventure tourer motorcycle in the future.
The Indian FTR 1200 S measures 2286mm in length, 1297mm in height, 850mm in width, seat height of 840mm, wheelbase of 1524mm and has a kerb weight of 235 kg. It rides on full adjustable USD front forks with 150mm of travel and a adjustable piggyback rear monoshock with 150mm of travel.
The question remains, will this bike find any buyers in India? Indian Motorcycles are a rare sight on our streets and the FTR 1200 S is in a segment of its own. Let’s wait and watch the progress of this motorcycle in the expanding big bike market here in India.
