Hyundai Motor India has showcased the engineering capabilities of their latest SUV – the Tucson. The Korean carmaker held an expedition to the Zoji La pass, located at 11,649 feet in the Himalayas. Ten units of the Tucson were part of this expedition. All the cars were stock condition vehicles with no accessories like winter tyres or snow chains.

Route of the Expedition to Zoji La Pass

The starting point of the trip was Srinagar. The ascent to the mountains commenced from Sonmang and took them across challenging terrain and roads which had fresh snowfall. There was ice and snow on the road, making the trip challenging. The Hyundai Tucson displayed its engineering prowess by climbing the Zoji La pass, situated at an altitude of 11,649 feet. In fact, the ground temperatures at the time of ascent were -3 to -14 degrees Celcius. Further, at this time of the year, Zoji La witnesses the harshest and the most inhospitable climatic conditions experienced in this region. The convoy also drove from Sonmarg to Kargin in sub-zero temperatures with snow/icy road conditions, and that too in the twilight.

Features of the Tucson AWD that helps achieve this feat

The Hyundai Tucson comes equipped with the HTRAC All-Wheel Drive system. It offers multiple terrain modes like Snow, Mud and Sand that help the drivers to adjust the powertrain as per the changing road and weather conditions.

The Tucson comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that develops 186 PS of peak power @ 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 416 Nm @ 2,000-2,750 rpm.

The dual-zone climate control system of the car helped keep the cabin temperature at a comfortable level despite the sub-zero weather conditions on the outside.

ADAS Features on the Hyundai Tucson

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson also comes with Hyundai’s SmartSense with Level 2 ADAS capabilities. It uses radar sensors, cameras and automated sensing technology to detect a car, cyclist or pedestrian on the road. Some of these include – Forward Collision Warning and Avoidance Assist for cars, pedestrians and cycles, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Driver Attention Warning and a lot more.
