Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai has announced its annual sales report of February 2022 in India, which highlights important details. As India’s first Smart Mobility Solutions Provider, Hyundai sold a total of 53,159 vehicles during the entire month. In total, the automaker sold 44,050 vehicles domestically and exported 9,109 units during the entirety of February 2022. However, the report suggests a -14.6% decrease in growth as Hyundai sold 51,600 vehicles domestically in February 2021.
Similarly, Hyundai also registered a -10.7% decrease in growth as it exported 10,200 vehicles in February 2021. Overall, Hyundai sales reported a -14% decrease in growth as it sold 61,800 vehicles in total during February 2021. The automaker claims that it’s continuing to grapple with the shortage of semiconductor chips that currently plagues the automotive industry. Hyundai stated that it’s actively exploring alternatives along with its partners to ensure the proper fulfilment of deliveries for its customers.
Hyundai’s current efforts & endeavours
Being the wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) focuses on offering mobility solutions and conducting exports. Currently, the automaker offers 11 models across various segments in the country via its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Chennai. These include the Santro, Grand i10 NIOS, all-new i20, i20 N-Line, Aura, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar, Tucson, and Kona Electric. HMIL claims that it ensures to conduct advanced production, maintain quality, and test capabilities of its vehicles via its manufacturing plant.
Currently, HMIL forms a critical part of HMC’s global export hub that globally exports vehicles to around 85 countries. Its major export markets include countries like Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Australia, and the Asia Pacific. To support its growth and expansion plans, HMIL currently has 544 dealers and more than 1355 service points across India. HMIL reiterates its commitment towards providing customers with services via its modern, multi-million-dollar R&D facility in Hyderabad.

This likely means the end of the Elantra as the current C-segment category no longer attracts customers in the country. One of the factors contributing towards the end of the Elantra and other executive sedans is the global preference for SUVs.
