Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the Ioniq 9, a luxury three-row electric SUV, marking a significant milestone in the company’s electric vehicle lineup. The Ioniq 9 is built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the same platform used for the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
Key Features and Specifications
The Ioniq 9 boasts an impressive 110.3 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated range of up to 620 kilometers (385 miles) on the WLTP cycle. The SUV is available in two trims: Long-Range and Performance, with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options.
The Long-Range variant features a 218 hp rear-mounted motor and an additional 95 hp front motor in AWD configuration, while the Performance trim offers a robust total system output with impressive acceleration capabilities. The Ioniq 9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
Ioniq 9 Interior and Technology
Inside, the Ioniq 9 offers a luxurious and spacious cabin with swiveling second-row seats, massage functions for first and second-row passengers, and a slidable Universal Island 2.0 console. The vehicle provides 620 liters of luggage space, expandable up to 1,323 liters with the third row folded.
The SUV is equipped with a panoramic curved display 12-inch infotainment and instrument clusters, ambient lighting, multi-zone climate control, and an optional 14-speaker Bose sound system. The SUV supports ultra-fast charging, capable of replenishing 10-80 percent battery in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
Design and Market Position
The Ioniq 9 features Hyundai’s Parametric Pixels LED lighting signature and offers 16 exterior color options, including Celadon Gray, Ionosphere Green, Sunset Brown, Cosmic Blue, Abyss Black, Serenity White, Snow White, Cyber Gray, Atlas White, Ecotronic Gray, Nocturne Gray, Gravity Gold, Ultimate Red, and Biophilic Blue. The design incorporates a sleek, aerodynamic profile with a drag coefficient of 0.259.
The SUV is set to debut in the Korean and United States markets during the first half of 2025, with plans for a global rollout later in the year. Hyundai aims to position the Ioniq 9 as a premium offering in the luxury electric SUV segment, competing with models like the Volvo EX90 and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
