Written by Vidhi Thapa

Hyundai Motor India Limited has made a goal of setting up 600 EV fast-charging stations in India in the span of 7 years, and it claims that it will already have 50 of these stations by the end of December 2024. Is Hyundai paving the way for the Creta EV?

100 EV fast-charging points in Tamil Nadu:

HMIL facilitated approximately 50000 charging sessions through its charging network. It has dispensed over 7.30 lakh units of energy to 10,000 Hyundai and Non-Hyundai EV owners. Hyundai plans to build 100 EV charging points in Tamil Nadu by 2027, for which it has already signed an MOU with the state government.

It plans to make 10 of the 10000 setups operational by the calendar year 2024. Three of these ten are already fully operational at Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai and Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai, and the remaining seven will be built shortly. These charging points are operational 24*7, and can be accessed through the MyHyundai app. The MyHundai app gives the user access to over 10000 EV charging points in India.

Key Locations of EV fast-charging points and facilities to be provided at them:

These charging points are going to be located in prominent locations and will be accessible to all EV owners. Major cities like Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Chennai will have these stations. Also, major highways, including Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Jaipur, Hyderabad-Vijayawada, Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Surat, Bengaluru-Pune, and Pune-Kolhapur have the charging station.

These fast EV charging centres will be equipped with advanced chargers offering multiple configurations like DC 150 kW + DC 60 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 150 kW + DC 30 kW or DC 60 kW. These stations will also have facilities like coffee shops, restaurants and shopping centres. To guide the customer, marshals would be available, and the area would be under 24*7 surveillance for safety purposes.
