Hyundai has announced plans to unveil its flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025 in January. This exciting reveal is set to take place on January 17, 2025, and is expected to draw a lot of attention from car enthusiasts.
Ioniq 9: A Flagship SUV
The Ioniq 9 is Hyundai’s largest electric SUV to date, measuring 5,060 mm in length and featuring a bold, angular design with rounded corners. It’s even longer than the Kia EV9, Hyundai’s sister brand’s flagship model. The SUV comes with 19-inch wheels as standard, with options for 20- or 21-inch setups.
Inside, the Ioniq 9 offers a luxurious and spacious cabin. It comes in six- and seven-seater layouts, with massaging seats in the first two rows. The second-row seats can swivel to face the third-row when the car is stationary. The SUV boasts a panoramic sunroof, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. It also features ambient lighting, roof-mounted AC vents, and multiple USB-C ports in all rows.
The Ioniq 9 is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP modular platform, which also underpins models like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. It comes with a 110.3 kWh battery pack, offering a projected WLTP range of up to 620 km on a single charge. The SUV can be fast-charged from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes with a 350 kW charger. It also features 400V and 800V charging capabilities and a vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature that allows it to charge other electrical items.
Performance and Safety
The Ioniq 9 comes in Long Range (RWD and AWD) and Performance (AWD) trims. The Long Range RWD variant produces 218 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, while the AWD variant adds a 95 horsepower motor at the front. The top-spec Performance variant features 218 horsepower motors on each axle, allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 5.2 seconds. The SUV is equipped with 10 airbags, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with multiple cameras and sensors, and other safety features like ABS and EBD.
Market Impact
Hyundai’s decision to launch the Ioniq 9 at the Bharat Mobility Show is a strategic move to capture the growing electric vehicle market in India. The SUV is expected to make a strong impression with its advanced technology, luxurious features, and impressive performance. Hyundai aims to position the Ioniq 9 as a halo model that sits at the top of its EV lineup. We expect it to be launched with a price tag that would exceed INR 1 crore.
