Hyundai is planning to introduce a new crossover SUV whose design is likely to be based on the Hyundai Bayon sold abroad. This new crossover SUV is likely to be sold alongside the Hyundai Venue in India and reports suggest that it will help the brand maintain its market share in the country.
Hyundai Crossover
According to reports, a new crossover based on the new-generation i20 platform is under development. The new crossover could be codenamed Bc4i and is likely to make its debut in FY2027. The Bc4i crossover is likely to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, the Tata Nexon, the Toyota Taisor and the Citroen C3 in the Indian market.
The Bc4i crossover is likely to share its powertrain with the Hyundai Venue. Thanks to this, the brand will not only be able to streamline production but also balance the economies of scale. Customers are also likely to benefit from this platform and powertrain sharing as it will keep the developmental and production costs in check. Speculation is that the crossover is likely to be priced between INR 10 to 15 Lakhs which currently appears to be a sweet spot in the Indian automotive industry.
Production in India
Sources report that the crossover SUV is likely to be produced from Hyundai Sriperumbudur production plant near Chennai. The brand could also be planning to shift the production of the all-new Venue to Talegaon in 2025. This will help Hyundai utilise the factory capacity at the Sriperumbudur plant.
Expect the crossover SUV to feature a bold new-generation design on the front and rear which is likely to be similar to the Bayon. This is also likely to include features such as LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as interior features such as automatic air conditioning, and a plethora of active and passive safety features. More details on this is likely to emerge in the near future.
