Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been making headlines ever since its launch in 2021. And now, at the 2022 World Car Awards, the car grabbed the spotlight by winning in three categories it took part into. These were World Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. A total of 102 automotive journalists across 33 countries voted for the Ioniq 5. Previously, the electric car had many other accolades, and these recent titles further prove the car’s popularity.

What Is The Hyundai Ioniq 5?

This is the first model in Hyundai’s dedicated BEV lineup brand: IONIQ. It leverages the bespoke Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture to offer 800-V ultra-fast charging capabilities. Charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes just 18 minutes. The unique packaging needs of an EV mean there’s more space inside when compared to a traditional ICE vehicle.

The carmaker mentioned that with the two-wheel-drive (2WD) mode, Ioniq 5 could run up to 470 to 480 km on a single charge as per WLTP standard. One key highlight of the Ioniq 5 is the moveable centre console that allows passengers more freedom of movement. In addition to this, Hyundai is also using eco-friendly materials for the interiors, thus taking care of the sustainable aspect.

Hyundai Plans For The Future

Electric Mobility being the future of automotive, there’s a lot of research and development happening in this domain. Hyundai also has set up big aspirations for the future. With the Ioniq 5, the Hyundai’s development and architecture look quite promising. With a strong presence across major markets, Hyundai will bring in a wide range of options, thus targetting a wider audience. The company is accelerating its electrification strategy and aims to become the world’s leading EV maker. By 2030, we could see over 17 new BEV models from Hyundai, including luxury models from Genesis. The target is to sell close to 1.87 million units of BEVs by 2030.
